Terms of use

1. Purpose

KNPLIV gives self-published authors a place to list their books and publish articles about them.

2. Submitting without an account

Listing a book requires no account. You provide the book's ASIN and an email address, which is never displayed. Creating an account is optional and only serves to write articles and follow your submissions.

3. What you submit

By submitting a book or an article you declare that you are the author or the rights holder of the text and the cover, and you allow us to display them. You keep all your rights and may request removal at any time.

4. What is refused

Refused, among others: books you do not hold the rights to, books published by a traditional publisher, hateful, defamatory or pornographic content, misleading links, fake reviews, and anything submitted solely to place a link.

5. Review

Every submission is read before publication. A page or an article may be refused or withdrawn without any right to compensation.

6. Links to Amazon

“View on Amazon” buttons are built from the ASIN supplied by the author. Should the site ever join an affiliate programme, that fact will be stated on every page concerned.

7. Readers' reviews

Anyone may leave a review on a book's page, without an account. In doing so you declare that it is your honest opinion, that it targets no one, and that you have received nothing in exchange for writing it. Reviews are read over before publication and may be withdrawn; the publication and refusal rules are set out in the legal notice.

8. Tools

The applications in the Tools area run in your browser, inside a sandboxed frame that cannot send anything over the network: whatever you type into them never leaves your device. Some may load a fixed, versioned module from knpliv.com (such as TEMPO's automatic text reading, the Tesseract engine under the Apache 2.0 licence); that module also runs on your device and sends nothing. They are provided as they are, with no guarantee of result. If you submit one, you declare that you hold the rights to it and undertake to submit no harmful code.

My projects (Manuscript and TEMPO). If you are signed in and choose “My space” in the tool, and only then, the project is sent to knpliv.com to be kept in your account space. It is first encrypted in your browser (AES-GCM 256-bit, key derived from your passphrase): we receive unreadable data, plus the name you give the project, its size and its dates, which are not encrypted. Your passphrase is never sent to us; we can neither read your projects nor recover them if you forget it. Each account has at most 500 MB and 100 projects. A project deleted from “My projects” is erased from the server; it may remain, still encrypted, in our backups until they are renewed. If you ask us to delete your account, its projects are erased with it.

9. Second-hand listings

KNPLIV takes no money and plays no part in any transaction: buyer and seller deal directly with each other, under their sole responsibility.

10. Liability

KNPLIV hosts content submitted by its members. It guarantees no commercial result and is not responsible for the content of third-party sites it links to.
